Healthy Food Diary

In my recent blog post I wrote that I want to revive the Fitness category on my blog so here I am writing the first fitness post in a long time.
Since I’m not able to go to the gym for the next days as I woke up sick on Monday morning, I wanted to give you an idea of what I eat in a day and maybe also give you some meal inspiration.

My main focus is on growing muscle and gaining weight so I don’t really count calories. Sometimes I do when I’m not sure whether I ate enough but for me, it’s more important to get my micro- (vitamins, minerals) and macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fat) in so that’s what I focus on mostly.
Also, I’m not following a specific diet, however, I like to limit my meat consumption and opt for vegetarian or vegan options as much as I can.

Since I only woke up at around 10:20, I started my day comparably late but I think my body just needed the rest. This was the first day of getting about 10 hours of sleep in a long time, I usually tend to sleep way shorter because my body likes to wake me up early.

I started the day with a cup of coffee and since I had a sore throat, I put some honey in it for the first time and it actually didn’t taste bad.

Time for breakfast. May I introduce you to the one thing I’ve had for breakfast almost every day for about 2 years now: oatmeal.
Though I often vary with the toppings, I always always always eat oatmeal in the morning, at least when I’m having breakfast at home.

My favorite way to eat it at the moment is to mix it with hot water, two pieces of dark chocolate (90%) and top it with coconut flakes.

If you’re interested in the bowl, you can get it here.

Lunchtime. I made one of my favorite dishes: scrambled eggs with potatoes and veggies. I usually go for red pepper but we didn’t have any so I went for tomatoes this time and I also threw some tofu in.

No eating but we went food shopping so I decided to show you some of the goodies we got: spinach, red pepper, apple juice, organic carrots, organic eggs, quark, cottage cheese, nuts, oats, romanesco, leek but we also got boiling chicken, frozen berries, and soup noodles… I think that’s it, I just couldn’t fit all of it into the photo. 😄

Time for a snack – the first of the day – and I went with nuts.
Which are your favorites? For me, it’s so hard to pick a favorite but I think I’ll go with cashews. However, I’ve also been loving walnuts recently.

Dinner time. My mom made a chicken noodle soup, which I had two bowls of and it was soooo good, just what I needed.

Second snack time. I usually try not to eat late but I needed to get some vitamins in so I decided to make a smoothie of everything healthy I could find: ginger, spinach, papaya, papaya seeds, grape juice, berries and water. I actually wanted to mix in some quark for more protein, which I remembered when it was already too late: as soon as I finished drinking it, so I ate about 100g of cottage cheese separately instead.

However, I do not recommend drinking a vitamin loaded smoothie like this late because I’m pretty sure this was what kept me up until 2 am. 😅

What do you think? Should I post more Food Diaries in the future? Are you as excited about the revival of my Fitness category as I am?
